Rising above Downtown LA, Conrad Los Angeles brings modern luxury to the city’s cultural core. Designed by Frank Gehry and connected to the Walt Disney Concert Hall, it combines architectural flair with calm, understated interiors. We came to LA for a quick food-filled weekend and a Dodgers game, and it turned out to be the perfect excuse to use our expiring Amex Platinum FHR credit.

Booking & Cost

We booked the stay through Amex FHR at the standard rate of about $350. After applying the $200 Platinum credit, our out-of-pocket cost came to roughly $150. The booking also came with breakfast for two and a $100 on-property credit usable for food and drinks.

Hilton Gold benefits were minimal beyond bottled water and late checkout, but specifically it did offer an additional $30 in food and beverage credits. Nevertheless, FHR inclusions made this stay an easy win from a value perspective.

Location & Check-in

The Conrad sits in the heart of the Grand Avenue cultural corridor, sharing its architectural DNA with the Walt Disney Concert Hall designed by Frank Gehry. The location puts you steps from The Broad, Grand Central Market, and the new Metro Regional Connector, making it easy to explore Downtown Los Angeles without needing to drive.

We arrived around noon and handed the car to valet parking, which costs $68 overnight. To our surprise, our room was already ready. The reception desk on the 10th floor felt calm and modern with soft lighting and friendly staff who explained our FHR benefits clearly.

The lobby feels more like a high-end lounge than a check-in counter. It has large windows, warm wood accents, and outdoor terraces that overlook the concert hall. The space immediately sets the tone for a comfortable and well-designed stay.

Room | Premium King

Our Premium King Room faced the pool courtyard, offering a peaceful view and plenty of natural light through floor-to-ceiling windows. The entryway led to a generous open closet and dresser before opening up to a space filled with warm wooden furniture and soft fabric textures.

The bed was extremely comfortable, complemented by a sectional sofa and a marble-top console with a Nespresso machine and small plant. The TV was set near the window instead of the wall’s center, subtly inviting guests to unwind on the sofa instead of watching from bed.

Lighting throughout the room was soft and layered with lamps and hidden light panels that gave the space a relaxing evening glow. Everything felt pristine, from the linens to the polished floors.

Bathroom

The bathroom was fully lined in marble, creating a clean and luxurious atmosphere. A long single vanity ran the length of the room, paired with large LED-lit mirrors that provided excellent light for getting ready. Instead of being fully enclosed, there’s a sliding door behind the vanity that brings in light from the bedroom when opened.

The walk-in rain shower was spacious and featured Byredo amenities. A frosted glass door separated the toilet closet for privacy. While there was no bathtub, the layout was practical and beautiful in its simplicity.

Dining & Service

Thanks to the FHR booking, we enjoyed complimentary breakfast and a $100 dining credit. Breakfast was delivered from San Laurel, the José Andrés restaurant on property.

We ordered the Toast Montadito with soft scrambled eggs and jamón ibérico along with a seasonal fruit plate. Since we did in-room dining, the order took about an hour to arrive, but the quality of the food was excellent.

Later, we spent the afternoon by the pool using our$100 on-property credits on cocktails, ham and crab croquettes, and a smash burger. The service was a bit slow and lackluster, but the food itself was good.

Amenities & Extras

Conrad’s wellness facilities are among the best in the city. The 24-hour fitness center is equipped with brand-new Technogym machines and free weights, offering a bright, spacious environment with views of Downtown LA. Right next door, the spa provides a calm retreat with a full menu of massages and body treatments. Guests can also use the $100 property credit toward spa services, which makes it a great way to enhance your stay.

The outdoor heated pool continues that relaxing energy from the lobby to the rooftop deck. It’s surrounded by cabanas and lounge chairs, with full food and drink service available from the nearby bar. During our visit, the pool stayed pleasantly quiet, making it an ideal spot to unwind with a book or cocktail in hand.

The house car is another thoughtful touch, available for short rides within a two-mile radius. It’s perfect for quick trips to nearby restaurants or museums when you want to avoid parking hassles.

We inquired about the signature Conrad teddy bear, the cute mascot often featured on social media. It’s no longer complimentary but available for purchase, which felt a bit disappointing yet still makes for a thoughtful souvenir.

Final Verdict

The Conrad Los Angeles is a standout city hotel that combines architectural prestige with modern comfort. From its design to its service, everything felt polished and calm.

For around $150 out of pocket after credits, this stay was an excellent value and a perfect example of how to use the Amex Platinum FHR benefit wisely.
