Villa Copenhagen sits inside a converted historic post office building, one block from Tivoli Gardens and steps from Copenhagen Central Station. The property leans fully into its Danish design identity, with natural materials, muted tones, and a deliberate restraint that carries from the lobby down to the room details. We booked two nights through Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts. Copenhagen has a limited luxury hotel footprint from the major points programs, so FHR is one of the better tools available here, and Villa Copenhagen puts that benefit to good use.

Booking & Cost

The base rate was roughly $600 per night. Booking through Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts took $300 off at checkout, bringing the two-night total to around $900 before the $100 on-property credit. Applied to bar tabs over both evenings, that credit disappeared without any effort to use it up. The welcome gift was a bottle of hand cream waiting at check-in. No upgrade was offered, and the room booked was the room received.

For travelers with the Amex Platinum card, Copenhagen is actually a strong case for leaning on FHR rather than points. The city’s limited footprint within Hyatt, Marriott, and IHG means there are few competitive points redemptions available, making the FHR discount one of the most practical ways to reduce the cost of a quality stay here.

Location & Check-In

Copenhagen Central Station is a two-minute walk from the front door, Tivoli Gardens is directly next door, and the airport is a fast 15-minute train ride away. Most of what you would want to see in the city is either walkable or a single Metro stop. It is hard to find a more convenient base in Copenhagen.

We arrived close to midnight by train. The lobby is covered by a glass dome ceiling that floods the space with natural light during the day and reflects the bar lighting warmly at night. A central seating area anchors the bar, with lounging spaces spread along the sides. Both a self-check-in station and a staffed desk are available, and the team was warm and attentive despite the late hour. Our welcome gifts were handed over on the spot.

Room | Standard Queen

The standard room is compact. At the far end, an attic-style window brings in natural light without offering any city view. Near the entrance, a coat hook and complimentary umbrella are the first things you notice, followed by a built-in closet with cloth hangers and a vertical coffee station with shelving tucked alongside it.

The centerpiece of the room is a Scandinavian TV console with a marble top and a wooden body, the kind of furniture piece that reads as designed rather than sourced. A panel on the side opens to reveal snacks and the mini fridge. Small decorative lamps sit at either end of the console, keeping the lighting warm and ambient rather than overhead and harsh.

The bed is two twins pushed together into a queen configuration and sleeps comfortably. Two small cylindrical bedside tables fit neatly into the gap between them, and the lighting controls, charging station, and panel are all built directly into the side of the headboard, keeping the surfaces clear. Below the attic window, two single-seat sofas and a small table offer the only dedicated lounging space in the room. There is no workspace, which is the honest reflection of the room’s footprint.

Bathroom

The bathroom is thoughtfully finished, with herringbone floor tiles, white square ceramic tiles on the walls, and a marble countertop at the sink. Bath products are from Skandinavisk, a Danish brand with a distinct Nordic fragrance identity that suits the hotel well. The toilet has its own separate room, which sounds like a luxury until you realize the shower got the short end of that arrangement. The shower is notably small, enough of a constraint that it is worth knowing before arrival. On our first night, we found a hair stuck to the showerhead, not a dealbreaker, but the kind of detail that compounds the disappointment when the space is already underwhelming. For a $600/night property, the bathroom is the one area where Villa Copenhagen visibly falls short.

Food & Service

Breakfast is served on the lobby level in a large dining room with additional outdoor seating. After a quick check-in at the front, seating is self-selected, and the room rarely felt crowded. The spread covers the expected bases, with eggs, sausages, pancakes, an omelette station, and a strong pastry selection. We worked through croissants, cinnamon buns, toast, and pancakes across both mornings, along with fruit and the daily smoothie, which was the clear highlight of the buffet. The cinnamon buns were solid, though anyone making the trip specifically for Danish pastries should save that experience for a café in Nørreport or the Latin Quarter. Coffee is self-serve from machines at either end of the dining room, and small ginger and vegetable wellness shots are set out near the entrance.

The bar adjacent to the lobby served us well over our stay. One afternoon we ordered prosciutto, burrata, and steak tartare, all sharply executed for a hotel bar. One evening we came back for cocktails before bed. The $100 FHR credit absorbed both visits without much thought.

Amenities

The pool is the standout amenity. Heated and outdoors on the second floor, it runs long and narrow with lounging chairs lining the edges and a small bar for poolside orders. It closes for roughly three hours midday, so plan around the morning and late afternoon windows. For a city hotel, it punches well above its weight.

The gym occupies one room next door, with cardio machines along the window and free weights and machines on the opposite wall. A sauna sits alongside it with a view down to the city streets. Fruit and water are set out at the spa counter just outside.

Reusable slippers are provided in the room rather than disposable ones, and they are available for purchase if you want to take a pair home.

Final Verdict

Villa Copenhagen delivers where it counts. The design is cohesive and considered, the location is as practical as it gets in the city, and the breakfast program is the standout. The room is small and the shower reflects that, so set expectations accordingly. Booked through Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts, the math works out in a city where points options are thin.
